【Abstract】As the world general purpose language, English is the official language in UN, the international communicating language and also it is the most important foreign language in China’s school education. With the continuous educational and teaching reform, there is great progress in education, especially in English textbooks and the teaching ways, and the teaching task is relatively heavy. Meanwhile, the reason why students’ English level differs much lies in the fact that the teaching resource is unbalanced. Therefore, the passage mainly include the subject characteristics of English language teaching and simply studies the improvement of the teaching ways of middle school English to make students understand English better.

The English course is valued in China as a fundamental course and developed steadily, but the difference between the country English and the city English is very obvious, for example, many students begin to make up for the knowledge learned in junior school after they come to senior school because of the fact that the students are lack of basic language knowledge. Thus, teachers should improve the teaching ways, arouse the students’ enthusiasm of study and motivate students’ interest in learning English according to students’ personalities and features to lead students to learn consciously and cultivate students’ ability of self-study .
1. Transfer the teaching aims from knowledge to practice.
The new curriculum reform evaluate teachers mainly depending on two factors: teaching and teachers’ quality. The teaching ability is sustained by solid professional knowledge, experienced teaching skill and strong research ability. Teaching is not an activity only based on teacher s teaching knowledge but a process where teachers and students both improve, cooperate and teach each other. The English curriculum standard set some specific requirements regarding the students’ language knowledge, language skill, emotional attitude, learning strategies and cultural consciousness. If students memorize mechanically in class, the knowledge will be forgot soon. Therefore, students should put what they have learnt into use so that students can keep the knowledge in mind naturally and it’s never easy to forget it.
2. Improve English learning methods and strategies.
The aim of English teaching is to motivate students interest in learning English and develop students ability of learning English, which helps students speak English bravely and acquires English language sense. Only in this way can teachers help students lay the foundation for the future study and develop a habit of learning English. Before every new lesson begins, teachers should make use of students’ curiosity to design some questions attracting students’ attention and create situations to adjust students’ studying emotion, learning attention and conceptual work to the positive state. However, teachers should make an effort to create an atmosphere that is useful to learning English, leading students to the class, helping students overcome difficulties and hardships from a cognitive point of view and creating a teaching environment where students feel happy and relaxed. Finally, teachers should encourage students to speak out their opinions bravely, think positively and motivate their thirst for know ledge, making them acquire knowledge on their own.
2.1. Design teaching procedures meticulously and cultivate initiative of learning English.
Preview is a good way of cultivating students’ ability of self-learning. Students can be guided to look for the problems and find out the solutions by this way. The abilities of finding out problems and solving them is the necessary teaching method in the new-style teachers’ teaching process. Meanwhile, problems are the starting point of scientific research, and the key to opening any door of science. If there is no problem, it’s hard to bring out and motivate the craving for knowledge; if there is no problem, students can’t find any existing problem so that they will not be in in-depth thinking; if there is no problem, the class teaching will tend to be boring, just like the dead water. Albert Einstein once said putting forward a problem was often more important than dealing a problem, so teachers should encourage students doubt and ask questions to cultivate their courage to be creative. Therefore, teachers should pay attention to leading students to grasp preview, advocating students’ “five inquiri es”. First, consult themselves. Facing problems, they should use their brains, think about problems seriously and ask themselves more about why the problems come out. Second, consult reference books. It means students should look up materials independently and do something to explore study. Third, consult textbooks. Facing problems, students should think about it seriously and repeatedly according to the whole text to find out answers in the learning passage. Forth, consult classmates. Students can discuss problems with each other that can’t be dealt with by themselves. Fifth, consult teachers. When students face the problems that no one around them can deal with, it’s time for them to consult teachers. At the same time, teachers’ teaching aim is to teach students learning strategy, guide them to explore study by themselves and solve problems independently. For seniors, the ability of previewing knowledge has been formed and they have formed their own understanding, so teachers can make arrangements for their extracurricular studies.
2.2. Create situational teaching, emphasize teaching effect and take an active part in classroom activities.
Learning in the classroom is the main method of carrying out quality education. Having class can help students understand and acquire the basic knowledge skills and develop cognitive ability on this basis. Teachers should take different kinds of teaching ways to make students feel interested in studying English and transfer students’ interest to a self-conscious learning behavior. For example, adopting various new teaching types like listening, speaking, reading, writing, acting, singing and drawing during class, teachers can also make use of the modern teaching technology by means of audio-visual multimedia to make the class atmosphere easy ,students have the courage to put forward questions and take an active part in the classroom teaching, which can improve the teaching effect greatly. Therefore, teachers should require students to keep their attention fixed on , cognate questions positively and try to use their heart, eyes mouths, hands, ears and take notes diligently. Teachers should also guide t heir students to deal with problems in an English way and put the knowledge into practical use. In the teaching time, teachers bring the English words, expressions and sentences that are used in daily life and interesting for students into classroom language training, which can not merely inspire students’ learning interest and broaden their horizons but also strengthen the situational teaching, direct teaching, practical teaching and new-styled teaching. In that way, the effectiveness of education will be improved.
Through these useful teaching ways, the enthusiasm of students’ learning English will be stimulated to maximum limit because teachers have returned the priority of learning to students so that students can form a good habit and follow teachers’ mentality. Besides, teachers decrease the number of teaching instructions, which is helpful to the close cooperation between teachers and students and useful to arouse emotional resonance. At last, students are willing to think about problems seriously and take the initiative to delve into research.
2.3. Make use of modern facilities and arouse students’ interest in learning English.
Modern teaching shouldn’t be limited to the teaching model of “blackboards plus chalk” but adopt multimedia teaching means to cope with students’ psychological characteristics. Nine-year Compulsory Education Full-time High School English Syllabus refers to :making use of material objects, wall maps, recorders, epidiascopes, TV sets, videodiscs, films and computers is intuitive and vivid and it is also helpful to students understanding of English they have learned. As a modern educator, the teacher should often use pictures, material objects and recorders to design situational teaching activities to make students acquire English knowledge directly and concretely.
Nowadays, the textbooks of teaching materials contain a lot of colorful pictures and are full of words and pictures, which is a sort of language itself and whose content is close to students’ life. So, it is easy to arouse emotional resonance between students and the textbooks and it can attract students’ learning interest. In students’ listening and speaking training, students can make use of the recorder, the epidiascope and the screen sheet to make audio-visual program lively and vivid. On the other hand, in students’ imitation, repeat and deciding training, teachers can make use of the recorder or computers to attract students’ interest. Therefore, teachers can make full use of the multi-media or other teaching resources to arouse students’ learning interest so that teachers can have a good teaching result.
2.4. Set up the second class, make the pretty students teach the less pretty and cultivate students’ innovation consciousness of learning English.
The English course is a kind of language course, which is lack of true situations of communication to students. Students’ 40 minutes of learning English time are not enough for getting a good result in English and because the number of students is too big, the amount of language practice during class time is less and less and it’s hard to get the expected result. In view of this situation, teachers should be devoted to setting up the second class and try to create the atmosphere of learning English. For example, the benefit of encouraging students take a positive part in colorful outdoor activities not only to protect students’ curiosity but also to cultivate students’ autonomy and innovation consciousness. At the same time, teachers should organize rich teaching content and various outdoor activities as scheduled, such as the after-class speech competition, the English hand-writing posters, the impromptu short play and so on to enrich students’ extracurricular activities and improve students’ abilities of using English. By doing this, teachers can make the limited class unlimited through the extracurricular activities, which is good for students’ comprehensive improvement of learning. Meanwhile, if so, students have the chance to put English language points that they have learned during class into use to describe things and people around them. Furthermore, teachers should also have a check of students’ handwriting regularly and praise the pretty students who are good at handwriting to make them go through the happiness of success and strengthen their self-confidence in learning English.
3. Develop and improve teachers’ self-quality.
The teachers’ ability of teaching practice is on the basis of teaching concepts and the teachers’ qualities can be developed fully. The teaching concepts administrate the teaching behaviors, so the way of English teachers’ not being eliminated is that teachers should learn, reflect and update their teaching concepts continuously and frequently. At the same time, teachers should also set up a lifelong learning concept, stick to learning all kinds of educational theories, update new theories continuously, improve their teaching methods, innovate teaching technical means, perfect their own knowledge structure constantly and temper their teaching mixed ability. The young English teachers should set up a new teacher-student perspective. Only when the relationship between teachers and students is equal can teachers arouse students’ enthusiasm creativity. Only when the communication and interaction are strengthened can teachers make the teaching effects better. Only when the students-oriented concept is carried out can teachers completely change the teaching current situation. And the specific ways are as follows:
3.1. Learn from famous teachers and insist on self-growth.
As a saying goes, the stone of other mountains can be used to attack jade. Famous teachers have a lot of strong points that is worth learning for me, so during next period, teachers should learn from famous teachers by surfing the Internet, reading books and watching videos to learn their advanced teaching experience. Meanwhile, teachers will grasp the teaching difficult points and important points of every class and find ways to deal with the teaching difficult points, which requires teachers to learn from the experienced teachers frequently, consult and discuss questions that students don’t understand with old teachers. Make sure that every lesson is interesting and vivid and the teaching important points stand out. Make sure that the 45-minute class time is fully made use of. During the studying process, teachers should put themselves into the educators’ shoes to feel their thought of teaching, combine their own teaching practice with experimental teaching and use theories to guide the practical teaching work, armed with scientific theories.
3.2. Work hard and improve constantly.
There is a sentence like: teachers teach knowledge every day, so they should learn new knowledge in time. During the era of knowledge explosion, teachers should learn everything positively.
3.2.1. The teachers in the New Age should be equipped with the most advanced educational concepts and the ability of controlling the class, and ask for the quality of 45 class minutes. By doing this, teachers should design the powerpoints that distribute the difficulties of the teaching materials to different places and make the teaching important points clear, which definitely makes teachers get twice results with half the effort. Therefore, teachers should master the skill of making powerpoints and practice making powerponts at a quick speed according to the teaching contents to serve for teaching.
3.2.2. According to the concepts of new curriculum and teaching material, teachers should carry out the reform and exploration of teaching models, optimize the teaching process, explore the teaching method of adapting to the new teaching material, deal with the curriculum revolution, implement the normal relation of teaching and improve the teaching quality. At the same time, the development of students’ abilities should be paid attention to and teachers improve students overall qualities and promote the development in an all-round way.
3.2.3. Teachers had better reflect every class seriously, write down teaching postscripts, summarize lessons endlessly, build up experience, write teaching papers of high quality and publish articles as many as possible. Diligent in practice, teachers should have a self-reflect.
3.2.4. Devoted to preparing lessons, teachers should have research of their teaching models and conclude their own research subject to search the material and write down papers.
3.3. Consolidate one’s own teaching style.
Teachers should make a deep research of the teaching subject and control the class flexibly. During the whole teaching process, teachers should set students at the first place and make students be master of classroom teaching. Teachers should attach importance to students’ learning enthusiasm in class and dense interest in taking part in learning. Meanwhile, teachers should pay attention to whether students can learn by themselves, read by themselves, cooperate by themselves and explore by themselves, thus making students experience the pleasure of success in learning. The key to forming teachers’ own teaching style is improve their own qualities and assume the role of the new teacher in the New Era—make teachers self be a qualified educators who have broad and profound knowledge and high qualities of qualified principles to be students’ supervisor and promoter.
4. Conclusion
Quality education is a kind of modern education that requires the accordance between comprehensive development of education and personality development of education. As an English teacher, we are more needed to update teaching concepts, change the traditional teaching method of imparting knowledge and prepare the well-designed the teaching activities according to the content of courses. By doing so, teachers can completely arouse students’ enthusiasm creativity, cultivate all sorts of learning ways of students’ learning English and the level of students learning English will be from good to better. After the process, students feel confident to learn English and they will be more interested in learning English. At last, students accept and digest knowledge on their own initiative with a positive thinking state, which can bring out twice the result with half the effort.
